Komodo Island

The home of the world’s largest lizard, the Komodo Dragon, the island of Komodo is located a short boat ride from Labuan Bajo. Now a fully protected conservation area, Komodo offers numerous opportunities for guided treks into the interior to view the abundance animal and bird life and, of course, the occasional dragon. A fortunate coincidence of ocean currents and underwater topography has created an exceptional degree of marine biodiversity: more species of fish are found in the coral reefs near Komodo than in all the rivers and lakes of Europe.
